Affordable house in ahmedabad gujarat
The urban poor in 57 towns of Gujarat will get homes under the Union government’s `housing for all’ mission by 2022. The houses will be built for Rs 50 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) and they will be allocated to 45 lakh people from the low income group. However, the houses remain a distant dream for urban poor in the state as poll promises made by Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister during 2012 assembly elections are yet to be fulfilled. According to a senior government official, only three lakh of the promised 30 lakh affordable houses are being built.
According to a reply submitted by Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State (MoS) of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, a total of 57 cities from Gujarat have been selected for inclusion in PMAYHFA (Urban) mission. This includes major cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Surat and state capital Gandhinagar. Survey to identify the potential beneficiaries began earlier this week. Modi’s home town Vadnagar has been included in those 57 towns.
In past, the state has witnessed irregularities in housing scheme. The report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India says that the Gujarat housing board has suffered a loss of Rs 5.56 crore due to under-realization of premium.
According to CAG report of the ye ar 2014, funds of around Rs 1.90 crore under `Bharat Nirman Yojana’ for development of rural infrastructure, which was initiated by NDA led government in 2005, were abandoned. Ashish Chauhan.
